Victoria Beckham's style is one of my favourites to research. Even with her, there are some No Thanks looks that make one wonder, "what were you thinking?"
NOTE-WORTHY
Wide Leg Trousers. It is interesting that Victoria Beckham often wears either skinny skinny jeans or loose over-sized wide leg pants. I like them, even though you do not see them often on the streets. I personally am not fond of turtlenecks on myself but I love the casual look and the warmth portrayed. Although when you notice the snow on the street, what the guy behind her is wearing and that it was February, you want to say, "It's not that warm, Victoria."
NICE
Pencil Skirt and Over-sized Sunglasses. This photo keeps recurring when I search for pencil skirt - Victoria Beckham. I don't know the original source of the photo nor the year it was taken but it demonstrates to me, the Victoria Beckham look I love.
The oversize sunglasses are another signature look that some might consider overdone. If she is in an airport, one does wonder why in the world she would be wearing them.
Designerzcentral.com called this look classic simple and that is my constant and never-ending goal for the look I want to portray. Compare it to the two "No Thanks" looks. There is no contest; the leaner slimmer look of the pencil skirt makes her appear in control, self-confident and successful. The other skirts illustrated here under the "no thanks" heading, seem disproportionate for her figure, the pink is too cutesy and the aqua just looks wrong.
NO THANKS
The Chunky Wedge and Matchy Matchy. Not my favourite look for Beckham. For a woman who can pull off the strappy stilletto sandal as a normal walking shoe and has made it a signature look, this shoe just doesn't live up to what Victoria Beckham should be wearing.
The second "No Thanks" look is the masculine big shirt with a skirt made of a fabric that looks like something from a tacky 1980s bridesmaid gown. Even her signature strappy sandals cannot save this look.

Hello Joyd,
ReplyDeleteSo a couple of thoughts on Victoria Beckham’s style. When I look at the fit of the trousers and two “no thanks” skirts, all seem to sit very low on the hip with a low slung belt. I too am not a fan of the matchy matchy – would either a fuchsia clutch or straw bag work better? The chunky heels don’t both me at all and I think that if she had gone with a strappy sandal it would’ve ended up being too precious. Maybe because I never had to endure the 80’s bridesmaid dress, I quite like the look in the second photo. Similar to my previous comment, I don’t mind the masculine shirt with the skirt.
Someone who has become my style favorite of late is Queen Letizia of Spain. Whereas Victoria always looks posh, Queen Letizia mixes high and low.
Cheers,
Thanks for your comment, your patience and your perspective. I agree with your suggestion of a fuchsia bag or straw clutch. About the heels, my take on it is proportion. I have worn the chunky heel but somehow never felt comfortable in it and as a result impose that perspective on what I see on others. I want to blame my height and balance but it's just preference and that makes life beautiful. Could you imagine everyone wearing the same thing? Never mind, it's not even worth contemplating. And thanks for the reference to Queen Letizia - I think there's a post there.
DeleteHello again,
ReplyDeleteSo ironically, I was looking through style photos of Victoria Beckham on the Telegraph UK website. She appears to be fond of the pleated skirt style as there was a photo of her wearing a similar skirt in black (again a shiny fabric) and a pale rose velvet.
I agree that a chunky feel can make your feet feel "heavy" visually so maybe the light color is the offset. Will need to check my closet now to see how many chunky heels I own.
Cheers,
I guess I'm old enough to say been there, done that in regards to the long pleated skirt and I don't want to do it again.
DeleteI agree about the chunky heels. The closest I have are a summer pair of white and blue wedges and the wedge is that ropey stuff like on espadrilles. Those work for me.
