Spring 2013: Black & White Stripes - Always & Again

Choices: Just How Many Stripes?

Nice           No Thanks           Note-Worthy

Two Spring 2013 trends are black and white, always or again, and stripes, always or again . . .

Always . . . it seems that stripes reappear every spring in  some form and if you scroll through the images of stripes online, you will find many celebrities, male and female, in stripes, from Coco Chanel through to Jackie O and Andy Warhol to present day celebs.

Again and again. . . Kelly Rypa caught on camera in the summer of 2009 . . .

2013 . . . Dig out the stripes, any stripes: vertical, horizontal, blazers, pants, skirts, shirts, sweaters - like black and white, they've been "in" before and this spring designers decided to kick them up a notch again.

Here's a look at the 2013 stripes.

No Thanks: That many stripes - very scary - in the trousers, in the top, in the skirt - just may be too much of a good thing.

Note-Worthy: As always, when a new trend arrives, I suggest and continue suggesting that you introduce it through your accessories - in this case, stripes in your shoes, stripes in your purse, stripes in your jewellery . . . .

Nice: Other than my Amor Luxe tops, and perhaps a few accessories, I know that will be the extent of stripes for me in 2013.

  1. Wow. The outfit Kelly has on is very nice but I think the others might be too much of a good thing. Although it all depends on the look you are trying for, how much you want to stand out or how much confidence you carry. Of course I won't say anything negative about people's choices. Glass houses right!. Thanks for sharing

    1. Yes, and Kelly Ripa's outfit comes from 2009 so stripes are not so much trendy as recurring. Of course, to each his or her own; however the 2013 outfit on the far right is just wrong.

So are men wearing stripes this year and do you wear stripes? I've seen Jean Paul Gaultier wear Amor-Luxe stripes but that's not a trend, it's a signature.

    2. Since first reading this post I've started paying attention or looking for people wearing stripes. I've seen lots of women wearing some amazing outfits wearing conservative striped tops but I haven't seen any men. When I think of men wearing striped top I keep getting this stereotype image of the "gay sailor" look. I'm sure most men do. That said, I think it might be a look I might try if I can find the right top. Not the blue and white horizontal striped sailor top but something more neutral. That will likely mean venturing over to the women side of the store (again) I'll keep you posted.

  2. Actually I began this blog to "practise" my writing but I sometimes wonder if I am improving or declining in technique so thanks for your comment. The informal style without an editor can sometimes backfire on a writer. Also, thank you for your advice, Brian. I am in fact attempting to write more posts more frequently. Ah . . . but you know, life sometimes gets in the way.
