A Closet Content Analysis

NICE                   NO THANKS         NOTE-WORTHY          NEED          NECESSARY

On the subject of dress almost no one, for one or another reason, feels truly indifferent: if their own clothes do not concern them, somebody else’s do.
- Elizabeth Bowen

When we shop for clothing, footwear and accessories, we try to make the very best fashion choices with the money we have. Sometimes we are pleased with those choices and sometimes not. With closet contents as motivation, this blog will be a record keeping device of the NICE, the NO THANKS, NOTE-WORTHY and the NEED that exist in everyone’s closet, stylish or not.

The NICE are your best fashion choices; they make you happy, you look good and you feel great whenever you step out in them.

The NO THANKS category includes the awful fashion purchases that linger in your closet and exude bad vibes whenever you look at them. They can be categorized as fashion mistakes (at least for you) and now elicit the response, What was I thinking?

The NOTE-WORTHY include those initially uncertain fashion purchases that worked out well . . . or maybe not.

The NEED include those clothing essentials necessary but perhaps missing from your closet, those faddish frivolous items that represent the latest seasonal change and information that you need to know before you go off and buy something.

March 29th, 2012 Update: When relevant I will be adding the NEW category to the four already in use.

May 21st, 2013 Update: A friend used the category NECESSARY, which I will differentiate from NEED. We may NEED something but it may be NECESSARY - some things are just NECESSARY and so I have added it to the range of choices to analyse the contents of our closets.

Women usually love what they buy, yet hate two-thirds of what is in their closets.
~Mignon McLaughlin, The Neurotic's Notebook, 1960

Of course, your responses are essential, whether you reply with one, two, three or all four of your own NICE, NO THANKS, NOTEWORTHY, NEED or NEW. Those replies and comments will potentially come from a cross-section of ages, sizes, lifestyles, professions, preferences, personality types and places. Your location, even in a general way, is always interesting. We all love to see and read about what is being worn all over the world.

Email JoyDCreations@gmail.com with your descriptions, and if you like, your photos and I'll include your NICE, NO THANKS, NOTEWORTHY, NEED or NEW in my posts.

Put yourself on view. This brings your talents to light.

I like to consider my clothing purchases, but have fallen prey to the impulse buy. Never a good idea! I have learned that what is bought in Mesa should stay in Mesa. Sometimes those great buys just don't translate! Love this blog but sadly find my closet seems to be quite full of "no thanks" items. Time for a trim!!

    1. Your comment has inspired a sub-category for NO THANKS - "things I should have left behind". I still have a top that I bought in Italy on one of my first visits there. I wore it there but it just didn't feel right back home. Glad to read that you are analyzing your closet contents. You never know, you might find a NO THANKS, that is now a NOTE-WORTHY.

    2. My saying will be - what I buy in Palm Springs, stays in Palm Springs. I bought a colorful sundress with three ruffles along the bottom that scalloped looking like a mini version of a flamenco dress. There was also some bling on the waist. I felt great wearing it in Palm Springs but in rural Ontario Canada it is definitely a NO Thanks!
